Dr. Larissa Seay

*June 2025: At present, I am accepting new assessment clients only (I am not treating new psychotherapy clients).

Hello! I am a licensed counseling psychologist in the state of California (PSY29181) with over 14 years of providing psychotherapy in various settings, including private practice, community mental health, college counseling centers, a Veterans Affairs center, and a residential treatment program for adolescents. I received a dual degree B.A. in psychology and anthropology from Wichita State University and an M.Ed. in counseling from Wichita State University. I earned a doctorate in counseling psychology (Ph.D.) from the American Psychological Association-accredited graduate program at the University of Missouri—Kansas City. My postdoctoral tenure was at TLC Child & Family Services (a residential treatment campus for adolescents) in Sebastopol, CA.

I enjoy providing a range of assessments to help folks understand themselves better, whether it be through diagnostic assessments, personality assessments, career assessments, or fertility evaluations. I currently provide personality-based assessments for a local religious organization and also provide assessments privately upon request. In the past, I worked as a consultant with a law firm in the Bay Area to provide diagnostic assessments for survivors of the Camp Fire that devastated Paradise, CA.

I’ve also taught undergraduate psychology courses in the Bay Area, serving as a full-time visiting assistant professor at Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC) for several years. In this role, I’ve had the opportunity to mentor several students and provided career support and advising. Training, education, and mentoring are passions of mine professionally.

As a psychologist, I have integrated cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal/relational, and emotion-focused approaches to therapy, with a multicultural foundation. Over the years, I’ve helped folks explore thought, emotional, relational, and cultural patterns that contribute to life challenges and find ways to increase resilience, acceptance, and/or empowerment in facing these challenges. As part of my values and training, multicultural competence is always skill that I strive for. I encourage discussion of all aspects of identity (race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, sexuality, religion, region, nationality, age, ability/disability status, etc) and view clients as affected by broader societal factors including discrimination and implicit bias. I have extensive experience providing therapy to individuals on the LGBTQ+ spectrum as a member of the LGBTQ+ community myself.
